Today President Kersti Kaljulaid welcomed Danish Queen Margrethe II who is visiting Estonia in celebration of Estonia’s 100th anniversary and the 800th anniversary of Dannebrog, the flag of Denmark.

According to the Estonian head of state, Estonia and Denmark are like-minded Northern European countries, partners in the European Union, allies in NATO, and the peoples have a tight bond in almost every field of life. The President highly values Denmark’s contribution to defending the region and the battle unit located in Estonia.

President Kaljulaid and Queen Margrethe discussed the countries’ good bilateral relations, environmental issues and Baltic Sea cooperation.

In the morning, President Kaljulaid went to welcome the Queen’s yacht Dannebrog on the yacht Admiral Bellingshausen, which will soon embark on its voyage to the Antarctic. A festive welcome ceremony was held at the Seaplane Harbour afterwards. Following the meeting in Kadriorg, Queen Margaret II and President Kaljulaid opened the exhibition “Dannebrog – the Flag that Fell from the Sky: the Golden Age of Danish Art” in the Kadriorg Art Museum.

In the evening, gala concert “Estonia 100 and Dannebrog 800” will be held in the Estonia Concert Hall. After the concert, President Kaljulaid will give a gala dinner in honour of Queen Margrethe II at the Arvo Pärt Centre. The visit will end on 16 June with a service in the Tallinn St. Mary’s Cathedral.
