President Kersti Kaljulaid will be in Latvia today and tomorrow to discuss the security of Europe and the future of the European Union with her Latvian, Austrian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Finnish, German, Greek, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese and Slovenian colleagues at the meeting of the heads of state of the Arraiolos Group.

The first meeting to take place today in Manor Rundale will focus on the security of Europe, including development the resistance of society, fighting the threats and propaganda of hybrid war and finding a balance between applying soft and hard force. The future of the European Union and the challenges ahead will be discussed at tomorrow’s meeting in Riga.

The Arraiolos Group is the name given to the series of informal meetings that started in 2003 to which heads of state who are not involved in the European Council are invited. The first meeting was organised by the President of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio, in the town of Arraiolos in Portugal.

On Friday, President Kaljulaid will embark on a working visit to Ukraine to meet with President Petro Poroshenko, participate in discussions about digital society and the rule of law in Kiev at the European Strategy Conference in Yalta, open the Kiev office of Estonian creative centre, LIFT99, and participate in the Let’s Do It World Cleanup Day.
