President Kaljulaid to embark on official visits to Greece and Ukraine in May

President Kersti Kaljulaid will embark on official visits to Greece and Ukraine in the second half of May to meet with the presidents and prime ministers of both countries. Additionally, the Head of State will visit Eastern Ukraine to learn more about building up the region that has suffered during the war.

As a part of her official visit to Greece on 16-18 May, President Kaljulaid will meet with the President of Greece, Prokópis Pavlópoulos, and give a joint press conference with the Head of State of Greece. Her itinerary also includes meetings with the Prime Minister of Greece, Aléxis Tsípras, and the leader of the opposition, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The Head of State will also pay a visit to the staff of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) in the harbour of Piraeus and the Orange Grove centre for start-up companies, where she will introduce our e-governance and digital society.

President Kersti Kaljulaid will be accompanied during her visit to Greece by the Minister of Interior, Andres Anvelt, members of the Parliament, Hanno Pevkur and Oudekki Loone, and Deputy Director General of the Police and Border Guard, Krista Aas.

During an official visit to Ukraine, which will take place on 22–24 May, the Head of State will meet with the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, and a joint press conference will be given after the meeting. The itinerary of the visit also includes meetings with the Prime Minister, Volodymyr Groysmana, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andri Parubi. The President will also open a business seminar in Kiev and meet with local entrepreneurs and representatives of the Ukrainian third sector. The Head of State will be accompanied during her visit to Ukraine by a representative business delegation, members of the Riigikogu, Eerik-Niiles Kross and Johannes Kert, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Jonatan Vseviov.

During the official visit the Head of State will also visit Eastern Ukraine, where she will meet with the Governor of Harkiv oblast and learn more about the work done to build up the region that has suffered during the war and the humanitarian situation. President Kaljulaid will also visit the staff of the Joint Forces Operation that controls the operation in Easter Ukraine. After the end of the official visit, the Head of State will also attend the final of the UEFA Champions League on 26 May in Kiev at the invitation of President Petro Poroshenko.
