President Kaljulaid will meet President Trump in April

President Kersti Kaljulaid will meet with her US counterpart, Donald Trump in Washington on April 3rd. The presidents of the three Baltic states and the US will mainly discuss security and economic co-operation.

"Such a meeting on the 100th anniversary of our independence serves to confirm, once again, the special connection and good co-operation between the Baltic states and the USA," said Lauri Kuusing, Foreign Policy Adviser to the President, adding that the USA never acknowledged the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states.

According to Kuusing, the main issues discussed at the meeting will be security and the strengthening of bilateral economic relations. "Our co-operation in the sphere of security is very good and all four countries will contribute at least 2% of their respective GDP to national defence in 2018. Furthermore, there is mutual interest in intensifying business contacts and a business forum will take place in Washington during the meeting of the heads of state," Kuusing explained.

The presidents of Estonia and the USA met most recently in July of last year, in Warsaw. Last year, Vice President of the USA, Mike Pence, and Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, also paid a visit to Tallinn with their delegations.
