President Kaljulaid to embark on a work visit to Africa

President Kersti Kaljulaid will tonight embark on a work visit to Africa where she will meet with the presidents of Ethiopia and Rwanda and the representatives of the African Union.

During the first half of the 4-day work visit, President Kaljulaid will meet with representatives of the African Union. Topical issues in relations between the European Union and Africa will be discussed in connection with the upcoming summit of the EU and the African Union, which will take place in November, during Estonia's Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Bilateral relations between the European Union and the African Union, the upcoming summit, Estonia's campaign to become a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the UN and migration issues will be discussed with the President of Ethiopia, Mulatu Teshome. In Ethiopia, President Kaljulaid will also pay a visit to a relocation centre for children of the International Migration Organization in Addis Ababa and give a presentation at a UN discussion panel, "How to create opportunities and new jobs for young persons by employing digital solutions?"

At a meeting with the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, the discussion will focus, apart from the upcoming summit and Estonia's UN campaign, on bilateral relations between Estonia and Rwanda and possible co-operation with Estonian enterprises in the digital sphere. In addition, the IT Minister of Rwanda will present digital solutions employed by the country to President Kaljulaid. The Estonian Head of State will also pay a visit to the Memorial of Genocide in Gisozi.

President Kersti Kaljulaid will return to Estonian on Saturday, 18 November.
