The President of the Republic, Kersti Kaljulaid, paid a visit today to the largest annual exercise of the Estonian Defence Forces, Spring Storm, at the central polygon. She met with professional Estonian defence force members, conscripts and reservists along with units of our allies that take part in the exercise.

"The anniversary-scented Spring Storm was impressive – on the one hand, the presence of allies and equipment was bigger than ever before and the training itself was longer than usual. However, it was even more important to see all these units, regardless of the mother tongue they speak, exercising there, shoulder to shoulder. For our allies, the exercise represents an opportunity to practice situations that they usually only read about from various materials in reality. Estonian conscripts are the best in the world and we have every reason to be proud of them," said the Head of State after returning from the exercise.

According to President Kaljulaid, apart from those who took part in the exercise we should also acknowledge and appreciate those who don't don the uniform themselves but still form a support network important for the Defence Force members. "Family members and relatives as well as the employers who have decided to continue to pay wages to reservists who take part in the exercise during their absence are also a part of our security," she said.

The Head of State was accompanied at the exercise by the Commander of the Defence Forces, General Riho Terras. The Head of State flew to the exercise on a Black Hawk helicopter, accompanied by Major General Gronski, Deputy Commanding General for Army National Guard, U.S. Army Europe, to view the events from the air. At Tapa, the Head of State was given an overview of the exercise, and she later went to the landscape and met with defence force members who took part in the exercise.
