President Kaljulaid met with Paul Ryan, current Speaker of the United States House of Representatives

President Kersti Kaljulaid met last night in Kadriorg with Paul Ryan, current Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. At the meeting, the Head of State emphasised the importance of Trans-Atlantic co-operation and thanked the US representatives for their considerable contribution to ensuring the security of the Western World.

"Today, NATO is stronger than ever and the contribution of the USA to the situation cannot be overestimated," said President Kaljulaid. She emphasised that the United States of America has been among the closes allies of the Republic of Estonia since we restored our independence and the Russian armed forces were removed from Estonia.

Speaker Ryan and President Kaljulaid admitted, together, that a strong NATO and working European Union are something that people on both sides of the Atlantic want to see. "Regardless of whether we are speaking of fighting terrorism, comprehending hybrid threats or security related co-operation in general," said the Head of State.

Co-operation between the two countries in the sphere of cyber security was also discussed at the meeting. "Estonia has unique and extensive experience in building up a digital society and this also includes cyber security. I hope to soon see joint efforts between the two countries, possibly even closer co-operation in this very sphere," President Kaljulaid hopefully stated.
