President Kaljulaid to depart today for a state visit to the Republic of Finland


President Kersti Kaljulaid and Georgi-Rene Maksimovski will today depart for a state visit to the Republic of Finland, accompanied by a representative business delegation.

On Tuesday, the Estonian Head of State will meet in Helsinki with the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, the Prime Minister, Juha Sipilä, the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland, Maria Lohela, Chairwoman of Helsinki City Council, Tuuli Kousa, and the Acting Mayor, Pekka Sauri. Estonia has long-term, good co-operation with Finland in the sphere of economy and culture. The meetings will focus on the further improvement of co-operation, primarily in the digital sphere, energy and transport connections and the sphere of research and education. The security situation in Europe and the challenges to be faced by the European Union will also be discussed.

In Helsinki, President Kaljulaid will place a wreath at the cross to the war heroes and the Mannerheim monument. The Head of State will also take a bouquet to the Hõimuveljed (Brothers in Arms) 1939-1945 memorial and the memorial to Finnish volunteers.

The Estonian Head of State will give a speech at a Finnish-Estonian business forum that is being organised for the state visit. President Kaljulaid will also visit the Estonian House in Helsinki and Latokartano School, where Estonian children can study in the Estonian language.

On the second day of her visit, President Kaljulaid will travel to the town of Tampere where she will meet with the representatives of city government and give a public address at Tampere University.

The official delegation that accompanies the Head of State will also include the Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu, Marko Mihkelson; a member of the Committee of European Affairs, Kalle Palling; the Minister of Education and Research, Mailis Reps; the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology, Urve Palo; the Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, General Riho Terras; the Rector of Tallinn University of Technology, Jaak Aaviksoo; Chairman of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry ,Toomas Luman; as the head of the business delegation, Deputy Secretary General for Economic Development of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, Viljar Lubi; Director General of the Information System Authority, Taimar Peterkop; and the Chairman of the Estonian Reserve Officers' Association, Captain Andre Lilleleht.

President Kaljulaid will be accompanied by a business delegation with 41 members.
