President Ilves to participate in celebrating 20th anniversary of fall of Berlin Wall

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will fly to Germany today, where tomorrow he will participate in the events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The invitation was sent to the Estonian Head of State by the Chancellor of Germany, Ms Angela Merkel.

Tonight, President Ilves will take part in the Trans-Atlantic Council’s Gala night, where the Freedom’s Challenge Awards will be presented. At the request of the organisers, the Estonian Head of State is to introduce the presentation of an award to Mr. Václav Havel, in recognition of the role of the Czech and Slovak nations in the fight for freedom and democracy.

The President will return to Estonia on 10th November.
